Shooting with the Canon EOS R6 Mark II

I have been on a video shooting kick in the last few months.  I have been shooting with the Canon EOS R6 Mark II camera and the Canon RF F1.8 35MM lens. I went out yesterday and shot this
.
Shot at various depths of fields on the R6 Mark II with a 35MM f1.8 Canon RF lens.

Why I love Sony mirrorless cameras

I've been shooting waterfalls the past couple of outings.  Ever since I got the 9 stop ND filter, I've been shooting long exposure waterfalls.  And I love it.  All my shots are taken during the day.  At least 6 second shots a ISO 50 and higher than f9.5.  Gotta love it.

Time to go back

The above shot was taken last week at the 5 Span bridge in Pakenham, Ontario.  It was a warm and sunny Friday with a lot of people out cooling down in the water.  I was hoping there was no one there but there were maybe about 75-90 people there cooling off in the water.  Today is a hot and sunny Monday.  But it’s a Monday so I’m hoping I’m there alone so I could take photos of these little waterfalls from a different angle.  I really like shooting with the Sony A7R Mark II and the Sony f3.5-6.3 24-240MM lens and the 10 stop GOBE ND filter.  I can take really long exposure photos during the middle of the day and get the silky, smooth water.  The above photo was shot at ISO 50, f16 and an 8 second exposure.  Long enough for the water to freeze in motion.  Today I am hoping I can be there alone and take my time to find better compositions.  I’m hoping I can vlog it as well.  I hate being on camera and doing it in front of people whether I know them or not.

And another long weekend with a trip planned

Caught this male deer at Parc Omega.  Available for sale on my Shutterstock portfolio.  It’s Valentines Day today and it’s a long weekend in Ontario.  So I’m taking my fiancĂ© to Niagara Falls, Ontario for the long weekend.  Haven’t been there in a year or so.  I’m taking the Sony RX100 Mark VII with me. I can’t wait to do some long exposure photography of the falls.

Tall Boats Festival in Brockville, Ontario with the Sony RX100 Mark VI

The girlfriend, her niece and the niece’s son and I went down to see the Tall Ships in Brockville, Ontario today just for the day.  I took my Sony RX100 Mark VI with me.  I didn’t take the Sony RX100 Mark VII with me because Apple has not upgraded the RAW portion of iOS yet so don’t have access to the RAW files through iOS 12 yet.  Probably will be there with iPadOS which should come out in the next three weeks.

Shot this photo at f9, ISO100 at roughly 1/100th of a second.  Edited in Pixelmator Pro on the 2018 Apple iPad Pro with the 512GB hard drive and 12.9” screen.  Just a fantastic combination for me.  Photos are sharp and colour accurate which is all I ask for.  Cropped this photo a bit considering there was a lot of the St. Lawerence Seaway underneath the boat.  It was a good time.

Niagara Falls in black and white

Niagara Falls in black and white

One of the many shots from the previous weekend.  Saturday was really nice.  Sunday turned out to be really windy with 125KM wind speeds.  A tour of a chocolate factory was in order instead.  Shot this with a Sony RX100 Mark VI.  And just used Apple Photos to do some light editing.  Not that much.  I hope you enjoy.

The lake

This past weekend my girlfriend along with her sister and I decided to go out for a drive to the country.  I haven't been here in about a year or so.  It's about an hour west of where I live.  It's really peaceful and quiet.  Gives us time to think and relax.

Just got back from Sandbanks

Just got back from Sandbanks Provincial Park just now.  Minor heat stroke but doing ok.  Got to fly the drone today a few times but it was so windy, the gimbal had a hard time tracking anything video wise so I did more photography than footage.  I didn't fly far as I'm still testing the new DJI Spark after the last incident.  I don't want to lose it again.

I'm just charging up the batteries on the drone right now.  Not doing much tomorrow so I may fly the drone again tomorrow and get more footage.  As for right now, it's hard to keep the eyes closed.  So time for bed since we've been up since 4:30am this morning.

Shooting Editorial

I haven't been shooting many editorial shots for fear of them being rejected on sites like Shutterstock and Fotolia.  What if they're rejected or they don't sell?  Well, they haven't sold anywhere yet but they are being accepted.  Which is a good thing of course.  I'm not one for photographing people much just because there are so many photographers that do people photography.  I would rather shoot inanimate objects such as the kayaks above.

Plus if I put the shots onto micro stocks like ShutterstockBigstockphoto or my own site and people find themselves in my shot which is for sale, they'll probably come after me for money or some other reason.  Could it just be paranoia?  I don't know.  I just know I hate having my picture taken.

Back to shooting editorial.  I've been shooting it for a while now but just haven't posted them to the micro stock sites and if I did they were rejected for some reason.  That all changed in the last month or so when practically every editorial shot has been accepted which is a feat in itself.  Now I wish they would just sell.  Considering they're on micro stock agencies, I'll probably sell them for pennies on the dollar.  But if people would just buy off of my site where I get a higher percentage of the sale, that would just be awesome.  I host my photos on FAA (Fine Art America) because it only costs $30 a year and you can upload as many photos as you want and they take care of all the printing, framing and shipping to your client.  Less administrative head ache for moi.
